Duties of the Employer:
Delimiting the different types of explosion risk zones (zones 20, 21 and 22 for powders and dusts and 0, 1 and 2 for gases and vapours) is one of the key responsibilities to be taken in a workplace where explosive atmospheres may occur (oxygen coming into contact with flammable and explosive dusts, powders, liquids, gasses or vapours).
Hazardous areas are classified based on the estimated frequency with which flammable material is released into the space occupied by process equipment. Employers are also required to indicate actions that need to be taken in order to eliminate potential sources of ignition which can cause an explosion.
How Atex Wolff & Company can help:
Atex Wolff & Company will undertake hazardous area classifications of new sites or verify the correctness of existing classifications. We can also check if appropriate equipment is selected for application in different hazardous zones.
