Explosion Protection Document for a manufacturer of construction chemicals

The Explosion Protection Document (EPD) is the most important, complete document prepared to achieve compliance with Polish and European regulations in the scope of explosion safety. Recently, our ATEX experts prepared an EPD for one of the construction chemicals manufacturers.

The plant produces only bulk materials. Multiple substances posing a potential threat of explosion or fire are stored in the plant and used in production processes. They include: flammable liquids, flammable gases (methane, propane-butane, acetylene, hydrogen) and a number of bulk substances (powders and fibres) – these dusts are highly explosive when mixed with air.

The production processes of the plant include, primarily, weighing, feeding to mixers and mixing of loose (organic and inorganic) substances.

The scope of analysis included: the areas of the bulk materials production building, battery charging station, storage cabinets for hazardous chemicals, natural gas network and process gas storage.

The explosion risk assessment provided a basis to form recommendations for further activities aimed at improving explosion safety in the parts of the facility where potentially explosive atmospheres can occur.
