ATEX training

The main focus of the specialised ATEX training are the matters of the broadly defined explosion and process safety (a detailed list of topics is included below). Training sessions are devoted to the most crucial issues of ATEX directives and harmonised standards. The key subject matter of the training is complemented by the discussion of the legal basis for fire safety.

The final composition of the ATEX training is adjusted to the specific issues within the production facility or organisation. For example, the training for bulk materials production facilities will be more focused on the hazards related to the presence of combustible dusts. Other areas may be more important for design offices or insurance companies.

Examples of topics for the ATEX training

The scope of the training is agreed upon and adapted for specific companies or organisations. This list presents the most important topics, based on them the final shape of the training is developed. This list, in justified cases, may be extended to accommodate additional topics.

  1. legal basis regarding the explosion safety: ATEX137 directive and Polish regulation (pertains to: owners of production lines, machines and equipment designed for operation in explosion hazard zones),
  2. legal basis regarding the explosion safety: ATEX95 directive and Polish regulation (pertains to: suppliers of machines and equipment as well as protective systems designed for operation in explosion hazard zones); mutual relations between ATEX137 and ATEX95,
  3. legal basis regarding fire safety: Regulation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of 7.06.2010 on the fire protection of buildings, structures and areas; relations to ATEX137,
  4. basic principles of classification and marking of explosion hazard zones; critical assessment of the usefulness of explosiveness characteristics of gases, vapours, liquids and dusts,
  5. electrostatic earthing – problem weight, examples and available technical solutions,
  6. types of explosion protection systems used in the industry, basic principles of selection (relief, suppression, decoupling); basic principles of protecting process installations against explosion hazard,
  7. video examples illustrating the effectiveness (advantages and disadvantages) of specific explosion protection systems (test explosions),
  8. basic principles of safe works and operation of equipment in explosion hazard zones (video and commentary),
  9. examples of explosions in the industry (presentation with photos and video – simulation of one of the explosions),
  10. degree and availability of ventilation and the range of explosion hazard zones, based on the example of gas networks, propane-butane, hydrogen, acetylene; battery charging stations, safety cabinets for storing chemicals,
  11. electrical equipment in explosion hazard zones – general principles of selection,
  12. serious damage threat in industry; selected problems related to storage (silos, tanks), dedusting (filters, cyclones, dust extraction), carburation systems in power stations (mills), limitations due to the application of explosion relief,
  13. process and explosion hazards for biomass installations (receiving, storage and feeding for the purposes of combustion/cofiring, dust extraction, material quality effects); hazards for small biomass systems,
  14. explosion hazard problems due to storage and dedusting at alternative fuel preparation plants for firing.

Who is the ATEX training for

  • production an storage companies, with facilities with the presence of combustible dusts, gases, vapours or hybrid mixtures (management, maintenance managers, safety personnel),
  • insurance companies and experts,
  • government organisations.

ATEX certificates

The attendees are presented with training completion certificates with the list of discussed topics.

Training venue and date

The training is close-door, which means they are limited to a single company or organisation. The dates and place for the training are agreed upon with the client.
