HAZOP studies – safety analysis of process systems

Scope of works

  • organisation of a group of experts capable of providing HAZOP studies for process systems in multiple industries;
  • comprehensive HAZOP study completed with a detailed final report (elaborating on the potential hazards within the studied system, emergency scenarios and guidelines to provide the required safety level).

HAZOP

Methodical and focused testing is key in the management of process systems’ risk as they enable identification of hazard sources and development of emergency scenarios. This purpose is achieved by HAZOP studies (Eng. Hazard and operability studies – Pol. Studium zagrożeń i zdolności operacyjnych). This type of study is completed with a detailed final report elaborating on the potential hazards within the studied system, emergency scenarios and guidelines to provide the required safety level.

The characteristic feature of the HAZOP technique is the research session (analytical session), implemented by a interdisciplinary team, led by the head analyst. The study team comprises designers and system users in areas related to the analysed process (technologist, mechanical engineer, automatic engineer, electrical engineer). The primary purpose of the analysis is obtaining results in line with the current practical knowledge on the construction and operation of the system.

When to perform a HAZOP study

The HAZOP study is provided both on the technological design level (identification of operational problems and indicating additional protective measures) and on the system operation and modernisation level (identification of scenarios leading to damage, indication of preventive, protective and remedial measures).

HAZOP report

The primary purpose of the HAZOP study report is the identification of hazards and emergency scenarios together with assessment provided by the team during sessions as well as summarising conclusions indicating the necessity to introduce additional protective measures or provide modifications to the design/system.
